Springbok Sevens coach, Paul Treu, has named a 22-man training squad for the next two Sevens Series tournaments in Adelaide and Hong Kong. In naming his squad to resume training this morning in Stellenbosch, Treu added three new names, namely Bryan Shabangu, Marcel Brache and Sampie Mastriet. South Africa will kick off their quest for a third successive Adelaide crown in Pool C alongside USA Sevens champions Samoa, France and Japan on 19 March.

Tottenham Hotspur survived a strong Everton fightback to secure a 2-1 home win while Fernando Torres scored on his first start in six weeks as Liverpool beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in the Premier League. Spurs reclaimed fourth on 49 points, above Manchester City on goal difference. Liverpool remain sixth on 48 with Aston Villa seventh on 45. Chelsea still lead the way with 61 points, one ahead of Manchester United. Arsenal, 3-1 winners at Stoke City, are third on 58 points. The day's other match between Sunderland and Fulham was goalless.
Olympic silver-medallists Spain overcame a sluggish start to defeat a fighting South Africa 4-2 in the opening match of the men's field hockey World Cup. Spain and South Africa are drawn in group B alongside favourites Australia, England, India and Pakistan. The 12-nation tournament began amid heavy security at the Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the Indian capital, with some 19,000 security personnel and 200 commandos on guard inside and outside the venue.
Captain Alastair Cook and Paul Collingwood scored half centuries to lead England to a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first of three ODI's. Chasing Bangladesh's 228, England reached 229-4 with 24 balls to spare. Cook made 64 off 68 balls, while Collingwood ended on 75 not out from 100 deliveries. Tamim Iqbal had earlier smashed 125 by striking 13 boundaries and three sixes off 120 balls for his third ODI century, and the first by a Bangladeshi batsman against England in any form of the game.
